The France international is into the final 12 months of his Bayern Munich contract.
Benjamin Pavard, a defender wanted by Manchester United, has agreed to terms at Old Trafford. An update shared the sum required to get the defender from Bayern Munich.
Is Benjamin Pavard being acquired by Man United?
This summer has already seen the Red Devils sign three high-profile players in Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana, and Mason Mount. Erik Ten Hag’s team still has time to grow, and it appears that midfield and defense signings are on the horizon.
Amadou Onana of Everton has apparently been approached recently, while Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina has been widely linked with a move to Manchester. A replacement for Harry Maguire was rumored to be of interest at the back, but the anticipated transfer of the Englishman to West Ham is no longer on.
Old Trafford has been mentioned in connection with Pavard’s transfer, and United has previously had a bid turned down by Bayern, but it seems the team is still pursuing a deal.
On Wednesday morning, Bild, a German news source, provided an update on the Red Devils and Pavard.
Benjamin Pavard plays where?
Man United may view a €50 million sum as extravagant for Pavard given that he is now earning £116,000 per week at Munich and is in the final year of his contract, despite the fact that they paid £60 million for Mount, who was also under contract, at the time.
The France international would, however, provide Ten Hag’s team a tonne of versatility because he can play both center-back and right-back, making him a smart addition for the present season and beyond.
Despite acknowledging that his primary position is in the center, Pavard has asserted that he is a better and more complete right-back than Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold and Paris Saint-Germain’s Archaf Hakimi.
“I play the middle defense position. This has always been my favorite place to go and where I feel most at ease. The finest place for me to be right now is here. In this role, I believe my strengths are more apparent.
“If the great coaches chose to position me on the right side, that means they had faith in my skills. I’ve always been a holder for Deschamps. It’s not because of my gorgeous eyes or my hair that he trusts me. He’s aware of my strengths. After that, I need to develop in a few key areas: I need to take more risks and initiative. I know this and I work on it every day.
“A good defense comes first for a defender. Although Hakimi, Arnold, may appear more attractive than Pavard on paper, I believe I am more complete defensively.
In the upcoming weeks, it will be intriguing to watch if United makes another effort to get closer to Bayern’s asking price. However, any effort could be contingent on outgoings, so a deal could be finalized just before the deadline.
