After failing to acquire Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich, Manchester United is said to have identified three further transfer targets.
The French international was coveted by the Red Devils, but they were unwilling to pay the Bundesliga winners’ asking price. Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Pavard is expected to sign with Inter Milan for a fee of up to €33 million (£28 million).
If Harry Maguire had transferred to West Ham United, the deal might have gone through, but since that deal fell through, the Red Devils are now considering their options.
Writing in his column for Caught Offside, Romano revealed United have already got three targets in mind if they go back into the market for a center-back.
According to the Italian reporter, Jean-Clair Todibo has always been another name on United’s list with Edmond Tapsoba and Marc Guehi, but the Harry Maguire situation is currently entirely quiet. Since Maguire’s transfer to West Ham fell through, “nothing is happening with Maguire, and Man United are not close to signing any new center-back.”
Getting Jonny Evans to sign a long-term deal is another option for United. Despite having a contract at Old Trafford that expires at the end of the month, the former Leicester City player said last week that he would like to extend it into the upcoming season. The Dutchman stated on Friday, “We are in talks, and when we have news, we will bring it.
The arrival of Evans might provide the defense the backup it needs in the middle, allowing Maguire to leave. This would free up money for Ten Hag to bring in more center-back players. Prior to the summer transfer season, United had intended to bolster this position, but David de Gea’s departure and the subsequent need to bring in a replacement custodian modified that plan.
Nevertheless, StadiumPosts is aware that Ten Hag wants to offload Maguire and Eric Bailly before the transfer window closes. In the last days of the transfer window, the Dutchman may potentially bring in a backup custodian in addition to a new midfielder.
