The Portuguese midfielder had been linked to moves away from the Etihad for the past couple of seasons, with the likes of Barcelona, PSG, and most recently Saudi Arabia all expressing interest. City fans will be happy to hear that he has now turned down all of them in favor of staying.
Fan favorite Silva will now be staying until at least 2026, an additional year added to his current contract, Man City announced the contract extension on social media.
He has previously played for the team for six seasons, and if he plays out the remainder of his freshly updated deal, he will have worn blue for just under ten years.
The 29-year-old referred to his experience with this group as “a dream” thus far and added, “I’ve enjoyed six wonderful years at Manchester City and I’m thrilled to extend my stay here.
Despite coming this close to joining PSG, Bernardo Silva has decided to remain at City.
“Winning the Triple Crown last season was quite special, and it’s wonderful to play on a team with so much enthusiasm and drive.
“I adore the manager, my teammates, and the fans, and I hope we can continue to create wonderful memories together in the years to come.”
The treble winner said that the support of the fan base over the years had greatly influenced his choice, saying that “the way they treat me and they help me, it’s a motivation.” Since the beginning, a significant component has undoubtedly been the way the fans have shown their love and support.
