Due to agreements for Folarin Balogun and Kieran Tierney, as well as a sell-on clause for Matteo Guendouzi, Arsenal stands to gain significantly.
Balogun is leaving Arsenal for Monaco in a £40 million move, setting a new record for the club. Real Sociedad pulled off a coup by signing Tierney on a season-long loan after Newcastle, Celtic, and Aston Villa declined to make counteroffers.
Guendouzi, meantime, is nearly set to sign with Lazio after the Italians and Marseille agreed to a transfer fee of €18 million (£15.45 million) for the France international. Due to a sell-on clause, Marseille owes Arsenal 15% of any transaction, or almost £2.3 million.
From West Ham’s deal to acquire Konstantinos Mavropanos from Stuttgart for £20 million, Arsenal has already made about £2 million. Mavropanos was sold by the Gunners to the Germans a year ago for barely £3 million, but the agreement also included a 10% sell-on provision.
Arsenal will be able to balance their budget thanks to the sale of Balogun and Tierney’s salary reduction, but it is doubtful that they would enter the market again unless there is a second departure or they can secure a deal for a right winger to serve as Bakayo Saka’s backup.
Balogun attracted a lot of interest, notably that of Chelsea, who liked the American international but would not meet Arsenal’s asking price. During his loan season with Reims last year, Balogun scored 21 Ligue 1 goals, and he will look to continue this trend at Monaco.
Despite claims that Eddie Nketiah had an injury before the end of Saturday’s game with Fulham, Arsenal has maintained that he is totally fit. Following a late equalize for the visitors by Joao Palhinha, the Premier League game ended 2-2 at the Emirates.
A sell-on clause for Guendouzi is a welcome addition for Mikel Arteta, as the two weren’t really compatible. The midfielder was used by the Gunners manager during his first few months in command after the manager succeeded Unai Emery.
However, after a fight with Neal Maupay during Brighton’s 2-1 victory over Arteta’s team in June 2020, Guendouzi never again represented Arsenal. Later that year, the Frenchman was loaned out to Hertha Berlin before joining Marseille in July 2021.
Guendouzi said last year, “It’s true that I didn’t have the finest connection with him. “In addition to that, I always attempted to work and give my all throughout practice and competition. I still play a few games with him and continue to put on tremendous performances.
I appreciate his decision because he preferred other players. Because I was still young and in need of playing time to advance, I later made the decision to depart as well. Playing is the most crucial when you’re young.
