Sofyan Amrabat has reportedly been given the “all clear” to “undergo a medical,” and Manchester United is reportedly close to signing him. Amrabat is a midfielder for Fiorentina.
Amrabat is one of United’s top summer objectives, as Erik ten Hag hopes to reunite with the brilliant midfielder, it has been widely reported throughout this summer.
The Moroccan international attracted interest from clubs throughout Europe last season after excelling for Fiorentina in Europe and at the World Cup.
Before intensifying their interest in Amrabat, it has been reported that Man Utd must shed some undesired players after spending over £150 million to sign Andre Onana, Mason Mount, and Rasmus Hojlund.
This summer, David De Gea, Alex Telles, Fred, and Anthony Elanga all departed the team, and Donny van de Beek is about to do the same.
On Wednesday, it was claimed that Man United had made a loan offer for Amrabat. However, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio later said that Fiorentina would’reject all loan proposals’ for the center-midfielder.
Football Insider now claims that United have “made a breakthrough in their bid to sign Fiorentina midfielder Amrabat.” It was previously believed that United was seeking a loan agreement to avoid Financial Fair Play difficulties.
A deal is seemingly edging closer as the report claims Amrabat has been ‘given the green light by the Italian club to travel to Manchester for talks and a medical’. They add.
‘United are now putting the finishing touches to what will be a marquee signing. They have been pursuing the midfielder all summer and a deal is now believed to be close following late-night developments.
‘Earlier this month (2 August), Football Insider revealed that Amrabat’s agents had travelled to Manchester ahead of a proposed move to Old Trafford.
‘Fiorentina’s asking price for the Morocco international is believed to be around £30million. Amrabat has entered the final year of his contract with the Serie A side but his deal includes the option of a 12-month extension.’
Fans of Manchester United shouldn’t get too enthused just yet, though. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano claims that although they “didn’t send an official bid” to Fiorentina on Wednesday, the Italian team “would accept a loan-to-buy deal”.
Romano informed Caught Offside that, contrary to rumors, Manchester United had not submitted a loan offer for Sofyan Amrabat.
“The sole event from yesterday was Man United’s communications with Fiorentina through middlemen. Fiorentina made it plain that they would be amenable to a loan move, but only if there is an obligation to buy provision even though they didn’t submit an official bid. In essence, they would agree to a loan-to-buy arrangement and seek a permanent transfer.
The onus is now on United, but as of right now, no loan offer has been made, according to all of my sources. As of right now, Amrabat is still Man United’s top priority, and negotiations will go forward.
