On Wednesday in the afternoon, Chelsea will reveal their lineup for the 2023–24 Premier League season. After a significant summer of changes at Stamford Bridge, Mauricio Pochettino will need to make a number of choices.
With more than £400 million spent on 12 new players, Todd Boehly persisted in his efforts to bring success to SW6. Since player sales brought in almost £200 million, the Blues team is significantly different from the one that finished the previous campaign.
And even though the season has just been going for four weeks, all 20 Premier League clubs must now submit their squad lists. Each side may have a roster of up to 25 players, with a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players.
We can anticipate seeing the players on the list on show for Pochettino’s team from now until the January transfer window. Clubs will have another chance to submit a squad list to accommodate their new signings once the following window ends.
However, some players, namely Under-21 players, won’t be listed in Chelsea’s roster list. According to Premier League regulations, players under the age of 21 are eligible in addition to the 25-player cap. Each player has a squad number that they represent while competing in Premier League games.
“For the 2023/24 campaign Under-21 players will have been born on or after 1 January 2002.” Armando Broja, Carney Chukwuemeka, Lewis Hall and Ian Maatsen all qualified as Under-21 players last season, although Broja is now 22 meaning he will need to be registered.
This season, summer signings Romeo Lavia, Cole Palmer and Lesley Ugochukwu will qualify as Under-21s, meaning Chelsea will avoid registering over £115million of quality this season.
So with that being said, football.london has named a number of highly-rated youngsters who could feature for the first-team this season but won’t need to be included in the squad list.
