Danny Murphy, a former Liverpool midfielder, claims to adore Chelsea defender Reece James to the moon and back.
The analyst claims that right now, he would still choose Trent Alexander-Arnold to Reece James.
On FIVE, Murphy was asked who he would start, bench, and drop out of Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and James. Murphy responded: “Walker starts, I’d have Trent on the bench.”
The retired England international responded, when asked if he would actually pick Alexander-Arnold over James, “I think I would at the moment, but I do love Reece as well.”
He then said, “He’s a fantastic talent, though. You’d be pleased if any of those three were on your squad.
England is overrun with options
Gareth Southgate obviously has a lot of choices, including James, for the right-back position.
The 23-year-old’s injury history is his sole drawback despite Ian Wright’s praise for him as a “fantastic player” and his praise for the player.
James is currently injured and has recently struggled with a number of setbacks, including missing the 2022 World Cup due to a knee issue.
But it is clear that the England international is among the top right-backs in the world when he is well.
James was among the most brilliant players on the pitch when he faced Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool at the beginning of the season. Only Dominik Szoboszlai registered more critical passes on the day than he did (WhoScored), demonstrating the threat he poses moving ahead.
James is the ideal full-back of the present era and such a lethal asset for his team. After missing the most recent World Cup, the Chelsea star will be itching to play in the Euro 2024 competition for England provided he can maintain his fitness.
