Rodri has discussed how Pep Guardiola’s leadership at Manchester City has changed his game.
The midfielder, who helped his team win the treble at the end of the previous season, is currently in the first half of his sixth Premier League season with the Manchester club.
But now, the Spaniard has spoken out about what it was like to play under the City manager for so long and how it impacted him.
Rodri claims that Guardiola has changed him.
Rodri recently discussed the influence Guardiola has had on him during his time at City in an interview with the club’s official media.
“I think it is huge,” he remarked. I often say it, but every coach I’ve had during my career has improved and transformed me in some manner.
Naturally, Pep has changed me the most because he is the manager I have worked for the longest. He modified the way I understood football from the perspective that I had originally. I noticed several things I had never noticed before. Every day I get to spend with him makes me very happy.
When comparing Rodri’s first four seasons at City, it is clear where he has made strides towards being a more effective player.
For instance, the midfielder’s number of progressive carries and recoveries has increased throughout each Premier League season, demonstrating how daring he has been with the ball when moving forward and how effective he has been at being in the right spots to win the ball back for his team.
It also demonstrates how important a player he is to Guardiola because he has scored some crucial goals for his team during his stay at the club, most notably the winning goal in the Champions League final back in June.
It is evident that the Spaniard is one of the first names on the teamsheet and has benefited from the instruction he has received from the manager given how prominent the player has been in Guardiola’s side this season and last season.
