According to rumors, Sheffield United defender Kyle Walker of Manchester City was prepared to make a dramatic comeback there in the summer.
This information was obtained via TEAMTalk when the future of the £50 million (Guardian) player at the Etihad Stadium was in doubt.
Kyle Walker ultimately decided against going back to his old team Sheffield United and instead signed a new contract at Manchester City that will last until 2026.
Paul Lake described Kyle Walker as “truly exceptional,” and Pep Guardiola blocked his move to Sheffield United. The 33-year-old also appeared ready to join Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich squad.
Walker’s tenure at the club appeared to be coming to an end after the Sky Blues’ treble victory.
So much so that it has been reported that Kyle Walker would have been open to reconciling with his old team if Sheffield United had made a “firm and concrete offer” to sign him.
Additionally, new owners for the Blades were slated to take control, giving them the opportunity to pay for the Englishman’s transfer.
This takeover, however, was unsuccessful because Pep Guardiola ultimately persuaded the five-time Premier League champion to remain at City.
The right decision was made by Pep Guardiola to keep Kyle Walker at any costs.
In the end, it would have been a relief for Manchester City to have Kyle Walker stay with them rather than move to Sheffield United.
The seasoned player continues to be the greatest right-back in the world, particularly defensively, which is a huge advantage for City against superior opponents both at home and in the Champions League.
Kyle Walker’s departure would have been an evident blow to the side after losing seasoned leaders like Ilkay Gundogan, Riyad Mahrez, and Aymeric Laporte this summer.
Pep Guardiola made the proper decision to hold onto a player of the highest calibre who is also a member of the club’s executive committee.
