After losing his position as club captain, the defender was predicted to leave Old Trafford last summer.
David Moyes, the manager of West Ham, has been open about his desire to recruit Harry Maguire, and the two teams are rumored to have agreed on a £30 million transfer deal.
Maguire, though, reportedly desired to remain at the Theatre of Dreams in order to contend for his position.
But according to Maguire, the two clubs were unable to agree on a transfer fee, therefore the ‘chance’ to move to east London was not present.
Regular game time is really essential to me and has always been throughout Maguire’s career.
“The option to actually move to West Ham wasn’t really agreed upon between both teams and myself, so it wasn’t just a matter of saying “yes” and moving.
Because we didn’t pursue it far enough, the opportunity itself wasn’t there.
“West Ham is a very big club, but my attention is still on Manchester United.”
I want to compete for my position, but obviously, game time is very essential to me.
