Onana was outstanding for United at Old Trafford, even if his team lost badly in their own backyard.
The under-fire Cameroonian has had a fantastic week for his new team, beginning on Wednesday with a 1-0 victory over Copenhagen and his last-minute penalty save.
Erling Haaland’s converted penalty gave City a 1-0 lead at the half, but Onana produced an incredible stop shortly before the break to maintain that score at halftime.
When Haaland sprinted through with a jumping header, he had almost the entire goal to aim for, but Onana managed to keep the Norwegian’s header out with two fists.
Even though Haaland subsequently scored his second with a similar opportunity, Guardiola praised Onana’s “incredible” save at the end of regulation.
Guardiola stated, “Erling had a tremendous chance at the end of the first half, and Onana makes an incredible save.”
Haaland expressed his own admiration for Onana’s save, saying the former Inter Milan goalie showed great skill throughout.
Haaland remarked, “It was an unbelievable save right before the half.”
When I chipped it in the second half, he made another outstanding save with his head. What is is, what is. I won.
