After suffering an ankle injury late in Norway’s 2-0 victory over the Faroe Islands, Erling Haaland, a top player for Manchester City, has disclosed that the injury is a recurrent problem for him.
Haaland entered the game as a substitute at halftime, but he was obviously in a lot of pain when he went down at the end, clutching his left ankle.
The 23-year-old stumbled badly while attempting to convert a cross from Mohammed Elyounoussi in the 87th minute. This will worry City because they play Liverpool following the international break.
The Norwegian team doctor, Ola Sand, asserted that Haaland suffered a similar injury during City’s most recent match against Bournemouth, saying his ankle is “a bit vulnerable.”
“Much of what transpired against Bournemouth a week and a half ago still happened.” Sand said to the Norwegian publication VG, “He has also had it before.
He sustains a little twist in his ankle, making him somewhat exposed. It aches a great deal at first, but it passes really soon.
He will now receive some medical attention, after which there will be quiet and relaxation, and we’ll check in with him early the following day.
“City has already been contacted by us. Erling has previously had conversations with Mario Pasfundi, Manchester City’s senior medical officer.
With the same ailment, Haaland had to leave the game at halftime against Bournemouth in the beginning of the month, but he was able to return for their Champions League match against Young Boys in the middle of the week.
With Liverpool only one point behind City in the Premier League, City manager Pep Guardiola will be desperate to have Haaland available for their match on November 25.
In addition to Mateo Kovacic, Nathan Ake, and Matheus Nunez withdrawing from their respective national teams during this international break, Guardiola has already lost long-term injuries to John Stones and Kevin de Bruyne.
But Norway, who hopes to qualify for the playoffs, will also be worried about his fitness as they hope he can start their crucial Euro 2024 qualifier against Scotland on Sunday.
