After speaking with Sportskeeda, Merson believes that the match on Saturday would be perfect for the Japanese midfield player.
Having won three of their last four Premier League games, Liverpool is in outstanding form going into the match on Saturday.
This season, the Reds have only suffered a single setback—a contentious 2-1 loss to Tottenham.
After changing his midfield throughout the summer, Jurgen Klopp’s team appears capable of taking on Manchester City once more.
Alexis Mac Allister has also excelled, but Dominik Szoboszlai has already made a big impression in the middle of the park.
Following a summer £16 million transfer from Stuttgart, Wataru Endo has yet to establish himself in Klopp’s lineup.
Some have suggested that he isn’t nearly good enough to start most of the time for Klopp’s team.
However, Paul Merson feels that this weekend against City, he should start in midfield.
Merson begs Klopp to begin Endo’s game against City.
Merson has backed City to win Saturday’s early kickoff against Liverpool 2-1.
The legendary player for Arsenal, nevertheless, has pleaded with Klopp to start Endo and advance Mac Allister up the pitch.
“I would definitely play Wataru Endo in midfield and push Alexis Mac Allister in the ‘number 8’ position,” Merson stated. “You want to do that against Man City because he keeps the ball.”
“You have to take advantage of that extra pass that passes through the lines if you want to defeat City.
“Players who can pick that pass are what you need.” Because he is patient and has the added benefit of realising Mac Allister’s full potential, Endo is the man I should be working with here.
Endo has only made a few starts in the Premier League this year, but against Brentford last time out, he did start from the beginning.
Mac Allister is frequently used in the No. 6 position by Klopp, along with Ryan Gravenberch. Merson might be right, though, in saying that Endo’s skills might be a good fit for this game.
The 30-year-old would provide Liverpool’s defence with more protection against the champs because of his prowess at disrupting play.
Playing Mac Allister deeper on Saturday would be a massive gamble and would expose Klopp’s team in the middle of the park.
