Chelsea’s Nkunku Injury Report Echoes Pochettino’s Cautionary Tone
Ben Dinnery, an injury expert, provided an update on Christopher Nkunku’s recuperation process. The Frenchman hopes to play for the Blues shortly. Nkunku moved from RB Leipzig for £52 million, arriving in west London during the summer transfer window.
But the gifted attacker hasn’t been able to play since suffering a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury during the preseason. On behalf of stocklytics.com, football.london spoke with injury expert Dinnery as the 26-year-old approaches his return to health.
Dinnery responded, “I mean, we are talking about day-to-day evaluations with regards to the player,” when asked when Nkunku will return. We’ve reached the last stage of our recuperation, known as reconditioning. However, we are discussing a young player who has never participated in the Premier League, which has entirely different qualities from other leagues in terms of the intensity and dynamic nature of the competition.
“What you wish to avoid is. It is not desirable to be substituting players only to have such guys eventually falter. Both their return and continued fitness are essential. Perhaps integration with some behind-closed-doors is [the] optimum scenario. bounce games, matches, and introductions from the bench.
That will occur. Pochettino’s decisions will be based on the performance of players who are occupying the front positions, such as Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, and Raheem Sterling. Chelsea’s current state of team availability.”
Dinnery also acknowledged that, in a perfect scenario, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino would gradually add Nkunku to the starting lineup. Pochettino will be anxious for the French international to maintain his fitness level when he returns. Dinnery went on, “Yes, you would want to build Chris Nkunku up and integrate him gradually.”
One person we have seen on the training fields for many months is Armando Broja. However, he hasn’t quite returned to playing a significant role for the first team on a regular basis.
Because there is a responsibility of care in addition to the here and now, it is also about player management. However, you also consider the player’s medium- and long-term protection as well as the duration of their career.”
