According to an update from a dependable journalist, Man Utd has been handed a blow after discovering that one of their players has experienced a fitness setback.
Man United injury updates
Even though Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Christian Eriksen, and Jonny Evans are now out with personal issues, it didn’t appear to have an impact on the Red Devils’ performance last night.
Wednesday night at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag’s team defeated Chelsea 2-1 in the Premier League. However, the manager was without another member of his team, who has also been sidelined recently.
Tyrell Malacia suffered a significant knee injury this season, which has prevented him from playing in any competition at all (Transfermarkt – Malacia statistics). The left-back has been training nonstop to try and make a quick recovery.
The manager won’t want to hear that the 24-year-old’s absence will be prolonged, though, since the Netherlands international recently had a second round of surgery and isn’t anticipated to return to the team until the beginning of next year at the latest.
In response to Malacia’s setback, Dean Jones
Reporter Dean Jones responded to GiveMeSport by acknowledging that, despite Malacia’s inconsistency in the starting lineup, Man United will be devastated to be without him for an extended period of time.
“Malacia is undoubtedly suffering from this setback. We all speak about how Ten Hag is always under pressure, but you have to feel a little sorry for him because he never has the entire team at his disposal.
“He has never had access to a first-choice XI or anything deeper than that. Even if I’m sure he wouldn’t regard Malacia as first choice in a starting lineup, it would still be good to have the option to use him.”
Malacia holds a true “jewel” for Ten Hag.
Ten Hag will be aware of Malacia’s abilities even though the defender isn’t a lock to start for Man United. Malacia is now ranked in the 97th percentile for tackles and the 95th percentile for interceptions, demonstrating his strength in the backfield (FBRef – Malacia statistics).
The Rotterdam native can also be effective on the other side of the ball. Since the beginning of his career, he has made 19 contributions (12 assists and seven goals), demonstrating his ability to participate in play on both the offensive and defensive ends.
Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has called Malacia a “jewel” down the left-hand side, so the coach will be devastated to see him spending more time on the sidelines. The staff will be praying that Malacia can make a quick recovery in 2024.
