When Francis Ngannou faced WBC Heavyweight World Champion Tyson Fury in his boxing debut, he even showed some competition, defying most projections.
The MMA fighter made a spectacular transition to boxing by going ten rounds against the biggest and greatest. In spite of having very little opportunity to defy the odds, Ngannou defeated Fury in the third round.
He told Club Shay Shay that the counter left that stunned the boxing world was not his greatest connection.
“I know he’s going to get up since it wasn’t a very strong punch. His shoulder was struck by the fist before his temple.
When asked what would have happened if it had been flush, Ngannou was certain.
“Everyone is going to fall. Everyone will be eliminated with a single blow.
In the end, Fury prevailed via split decision, but the 38-year-old feels that he was given the advantage. In spite of official records, he stated that Fury will face the challenger in the ring and that he wants a rematch.
“I want to fight Tyson again right now. I think he took me a little lightly, so he might come back strong the next time, but this fight also gave me a lot more confidence. I’m eager to experience it. I’m in for the rematch.
“I will undoubtedly prepare myself better. Work harder at it. I know that I won because I was there. Even though he was declared the winner, he is now entering as a challenger. He is coming at this time to clear his record.
Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are involved in an undisputed bout that begins on February 17 and will probably reoccur later in the year due to a rematch clause.
It is anticipated that Ngannou will return to mixed martial arts.
