From Silence to Revelation: McTominay Exposes the ‘Toxic’ Veil at Old Trafford
By drawing comparisons with the toxic environment that existed at Old Trafford when other managers were getting close to being fired, Scott McTominay asserted that the players of Manchester United were entirely behind Erik ten Hag.
The top scorer for United was in the lineup when the careers of Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Ralf Rangnick came to an end. He emphasised that, in contrast to then, Ten Hag now has the backing of the players.
Even a victory over Bayern Munich may not be enough to save United, who have lost 11 games so far this season, from the Champions League on Tuesday.
However, Ten Hag has denied rumours that he no longer has the support of half of his players, and McTominay believes that this time is different.
“We’ve had a lot of incredible players, and we’re at the point where we have major characters in the locker room,” he clarified. The boys have a strong bond with the manager, and that bond will not waver, unlike with some of the past managers when things have occasionally been a touch toxic.
The players’ opinions and things uttered behind closed doors can be misinterpreted, even with our outstanding coaching staff. All we want is to do well for the football team.
Despite United’s position at the bottom of Group A, behind FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray, who are playing each other in Denmark, Ten Hag stated he was not considering the possibility of an early departure. For United to have a chance of placing second behind Bayern, they must draw.
The Dutchman remarked, “I know that we think positively and we never think in negative scenarios.” We’re aware of what to do. We will instill that belief and sense of capability in the team because we know that victory is necessary if we want to remain in Europe.
Serge Gnabry will not be available for Bayern at Old Trafford, and United is waiting to see if defender Victor Lindelof will be ready to feature again.
