Sergio Perez’s Startling Message Sparks Concerns for Verstappen and Red Bull’s Destiny
Even though Sergio Perez’s future at Red Bull is still up in the air, he is focused on ending teammate Max Verstappen’s reign of dominance in the Formula One race.
Mexican driver Perez placed second on the 2023 leaderboard, but he had a rough conclusion to the season, creating the largest gap between first and second position in Formula 1 history. This led to rumors that his team could try to find a replacement for him. However, 33-year-old “Checo” is bent on stopping Verstappen’s run of three straight world titles. He made this declaration just a few days after Red Bull team principal Christian Horner gave a concerning update about Perez’s seat.
When Sky Sports asked Perez if he thought he might win the 2024 title, he said, “That’s the main target.” Having already placed second, my primary goal is to improve. I understand how difficult it is. We intend to utilise this winter break to strive for beginning the season on a positive note and being able to sustain that degree of consistency all through the season.”
With a contract that expires at the end of the following year, the six-time Grand Prix winner is aware of what needs to be done to get better. “I believe that a more steady season and greater tempo are what we need. We had a bit of a rollercoaster this year, I believe,” he said.
We have a new chance coming up next year. To be very honest, I didn’t feel completely at ease with the automobile this year. We should be more stronger and better next year, I hope. We returned in the latter part of the year. I believe that we have improved significantly over the past few races. We must give Max some credit. He’s been amazing, and I believe he’s had the best season ever.”
Boss Horner stated to Sky last week that “everything is open” for Perez’s contract renewal at the end of 2024. The British player made this clarification in the midst of speculation that Daniel Ricciardo would rejoin Red Bull: “As a team, you want to deploy the most competitive duo you can muster; you want the squad to have the proper dynamic.
The combination of Max and Checo has been incredibly effective. Checo has placed fourth, third, and second throughout his three years with us, indicating a positive trajectory! We know Daniel well, so it’s wonderful to have him back at Red Bull. Naturally, everything is available starting in 2025. Therefore, it is not a terrible thing for us to have options both internally and internationally.”
