Reports Hint at Andre Onana’s Exit, Replacement on the Horizon
Only months after signing the Cameroonian, Manchester United is looking to replace custodian Andre Onana with a fresh player.
Having previously worked with Erik ten Hag at Ajax, Onana came to Old Trafford in the summer to replace departing custodian David De Gea. But the 27-year-old has had a difficult season at Manchester United, where they are trailing the opposition in the league and have already qualified out of Europe before Christmas. He has also made some high-profile errors during this difficult time.
There will be additional investment in the playing roster, with Onana reportedly on the trade block, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe prepares to take over the Red Devils’ football operations shortly.
According to rumours from Spain that TEAMtalk has reported, Valencia custodian Giorgi Mamardashvili is being considered to take Onana’s spot. They call Onana a “flop.”
Even though Onana has performed admirably with the ball at his feet this season, there are still concerns about his ability to stop shots, and he will be off for a few weeks due to his involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations next year.
Ten Hag’s style of play will determine whether or not the Cameroon international signs, which raises doubts about his status. Onana can discover that his spot in the team is no longer assured if the manager is fired.
During the summer, Altay Bayindir was also signed by Manchester United, but the Turkish goalkeeper has not yet made a game for the team.
Transfermarkt estimates Onana’s value at €40 million.
