Alan Shearer and Micah Richards both believe that Brentford striker Ivan Toney would be a fantastic addition to Arsenal’s squad ahead of the January transfer window.
Ivan Toney, a centre forward for Brentford, may be available for Arsenal to sign before the January transfer window opens, according to Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer. With players like Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Jesus, and Leandro Trossard running through the middle at various times this season, the Gunners have a plethora of alternatives in attack.
Toney, who scored 20 goals in the Premier League the previous season, is the most productive of them players. “Yeah I do with who they have on either side down the flanks, I think he would have a football pitch with crosses coming into the box,” Shearer said on The Rest is Football podcast when asked about the prospect of the England star playing under Mikel Arteta.
“He would love that.” Shearer’s sentiment was also expressed by former Manchester City defender Micah Richards, who said that Toney would flourish with Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka on the wings.
Richards went on, “I concur with that. The way Arsenal plays with Saka and Martinelli on the flanks shows how different they are from the team that had so much room in the past. However, because they are now the men of danger.
They are nearly matching them, whereas previously Saka was covering one or two. They have evolved into a crossing team that aims to escape confined spaces, and with Toney’s strength and heading prowess, I genuinely believe that he now fits Arsenal.”
Since coming to North London in the summer of 2022, Jesus has been Arteta’s first-choice striker; yet, during his tenure at the Emirates Stadium, the Brazilian international has not been able to establish himself as a consistent goal scorer. Despite missing multiple games due to injury, he has only scored twice in the Premier League this season.
