Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, claimed that in the lead-up to Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise’s equaliser on Saturday, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva might have handled the game better.
During his news conference following his team’s 2-2 draw, Guardiola was questioned about why his team is having trouble finishing games this season (via Hayters TV).
Thanks to strikes from Michael Olise and Jean-Philippe Mateta, Manchester City lost further points in the Premier League in just 19 minutes after taking a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Pep Guardiola believes that Michael Olise’s goal against Crystal Palace was the result of mistakes made by Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden of Manchester City.
Phil Foden attempted to dribble the ball in plenty of space, but he ran into his opponent. As a result, he lost possession and gave the visiting team the opportunity to launch a counterattack at the Etihad Stadium.
Although Palace’s opportunity proved fruitless, Bernardo Silva attempted to replicate the Englishman’s move near his team’s penalty area before being taken out by Jean Philippe-Mateta. In the end, Olise scored the penalty in the 95th minute after Foden challenged an attacker inside the box.
Pep Guardiola believed that before Crystal Palace’s last-gasp goal against Manchester City, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva had to have made wiser choices.
