For the 2024 edition, the prize money for the Australian Open will increase by 10 million Australian dollars ($6.8 million), bringing the total prize money to 86.5 Australian dollars ($58.4 million).
Craig Tiley, the tournament director, announced the rise in Melbourne along with the total prize money for each round of the competition, which gets underway on January 14.
AO 2024 Strikes a New Campaign
The men’s and women’s singles champions will receive $3.15 million Australian dollars apiece (about $2.15 million) at the first Grand Slam of the season, while first-round qualifiers will receive a 20% boost to 31,250 Australian dollars (around $21,000).
“With the significant increases in qualifying and the early rounds of singles and doubles at the Australian Open, we’ve increased prize money for every round,” Tiley stated. “We know that paying the world’s best players fairly allows them to invest in their own careers and, in many cases, helps position them for success throughout the year, which is why it is essential to the Australian Open’s continued success.” We want to make sure that Australia continues to serve as the starting point for the tennis season throughout the world and that the players and their teams have all they want to compete at the highest level and carry on enjoying the Happy Slam.
Some of other facts about the 2024 Australian Open prize money include:
- First round doubles teams – $36,000, up 16 percent
- First round main draw singles players – $120,000, up 13 percent
- Players reaching the second round – $180,000, up 13 percent
- Semifinalists will earn $990,000, up 7 percent
- Singles champions will take home $3.15 million
