Sven Bender is returning to Borussia Dortmund as a coach after it was announced that Nuri Sahin would take over as Edin Terzic’s assistant coach, according to Bild.
Together with his twin brother Lars, Sven plays for his hometown team, TSV Brannenburg, and serves as assistant manager for the Germany under-17 team. Dortmund has asked the DFB for permission to begin talks with Bender.
With Bender and Sahin back, the hope is that the rift between Terzic and the Dortmund players will be bridged. It is hoped that the fact that Sahin and Bender have both previously played with Julian Brandt, Mats Hummels, and Marco Reus will help ease tensions.
In an attempt to turn things around at Dortmund, Terzic brought in both Bender and Sahin. Bild also suggests that if Terzic is unable to win over the players and the team’s performance remains subpar, Sahin might take over as coach and Bender as his assistant.
