After Donny van de Beek’s departure from Old Trafford, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes wished him success on social media.
After joining United in the summer of 2020 in a £40 million move from Ajax, the 26-year-old Dutch midfielder has had a tough three and a half year stint in the Premier League. However, he will now have the opportunity to launch his career on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.
After Van van Beek moved to Germany, several of his teammates, including Fernandes, wrote him heartfelt messages of support on social media. As the dust settles, the midfielder has received messages from several of his teammates.
Fernandes placed a remark on Van van Beek’s tweet announcing his departure from United. He included a heart emoji and wrote, “Keep that smile bro,” which the departing midfield maestro appreciated.
Despite Van de Beek’s inability to secure a consistent starting position under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag’s arrival appeared to have the potential to save his career at United, because the Dutchman had previously worked with Van de Beek at Ajax.
But during Ten Hag’s first season at the team, Van van Beek didn’t receive much of a look in, and when the midfielder was left out of Manchester United’s Champions League roster back in September, it was clear what was coming.
When reporters questioned Van van Beek about his difficult time at United during his unveiling in Germany, it even seemed as though he was making fun of Ten Hag. “It’s difficult if you don’t play as many games as you want to, but that’s the past now,” he remarked. The most crucial thing right now is that I’m here and I’m optimistic; after that, anything may happen.
“I’m excited right now. Playing around players [at United] who have accomplished a lot and have experience, in my opinion, helps. You see them every day in training, and I’ll try to bring that here to benefit the squad as well. It helps you grow.
“I want to be able to share some of the football knowledge I’ve gained here. I’ll be ready, of course, if the coach throws me on the pitch. I played a couple friendlies on the training pitch, so I’m in good shape. That’s unusual, I know, but I put in a lot of training in Manchester.
“I feel wonderful. To reach your peak, of course, you also need to practise in matches, but the most crucial thing is that I’m healthy.”
