Novak Djokovic will defend his Australian Open title soon, and he has identified himself as the toughest challenge to earning another trophy.
Due to Djokovic’s incredible 10 victories at the Australian Open, no player has been as dominant as the Serbian. With the exception of the 2022 event, when he was deported, he has virtually won every subsequent Melbourne competition.
This campaign might have been a race to a 12th instead of an 11th, had Djokovic participated. If he had, he probably would have won it as well. In any event, he is regarded by many as the favourite to win it all again, despite the fact that some believe it to be the most difficult to win in recent memory.
He believes that he poses the greatest challenge to his title defence, even if players like Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner are more than capable of challenging his goals.
“I always put myself first, followed naturally by the world’s top players. I’m sure that every player in attendance is here to fulfil their dream of becoming a Grand Slam winner. It goes without saying that some players are expected to perform better than others.”
Despite not having the most difficult draw, Djokovic’s entire title defence will be a little challenging. With a possible matchup versus Ben Shelton, it’s actually a pretty good one—the most thrilling of his first few matches.
“It’s 128 draw. It’s a Grand Slam. We know what Grand Slam represents for our sport. It’s where every player wants to play their best tennis. Yeah, it’s exciting to be a part of another slam.”
It’s his first time starting on Sunday, and he’ll be up against qualifier Dino Prizmic. The 24-time major winner has a very realistic entry into the competition with that.
