The undercard for Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s historic undisputed heavyweight title fight has been formally confirmed, and the fight is now only four weeks away.
After impressing fans with a star-studded bill at the “Day of Reckoning” event in December, the boxing businessmen in Saudi Arabia seem to have done it again, as two more world title bouts have been added to the February show.
Jai Opetaia (24-0) gave up his IBF Cruiserweight Title to take on Ellis Zorro back in December. Now, he is scheduled to travel to Riyadh once more to face Mairis Briedis (28-2), the opponent he beat to win the world title. Briedis hasn’t entered the ring since their July 2022 meeting and will be looking to exact revenge for his second career loss.
Joe Cordina (17-0) will defend his IBF Super-Featherweight Title for the second time, having defeated Edward Vasquez via majority decision back in November.
The Welshman will take on Anthony Cacace (21-1), the IBO World Champion from Belfast, who is fighting outside of the United Kingdom for the first time, in an attempt to keep his title and perfect record.
Following claims that surfaced last week, light heavyweight icon Sergey Kovalev (35-4-1) is scheduled to make his ring comeback against Robin Safar (16-0) of Sweden. Fans were surprised to see Tyson Fury’s nephew and featherweight contender Isaac Lowe (24-2-3) on the bill, though, as he goes up against Hasibullah Ahmadi (16-1), an Afghan prospect who is only 23 years old.
Bakhodir Jalolov (14-0) and Moses Itauma (7-0), both undefeated heavyweights, are looking to build on their remarkable results since being professional. Itauma’s battle with English Heavyweight Champion Solomon Dacres may have to wait.
Lastly, against an opponent who has not yet been announced, New Zealand’s striking six-foot-six cruiserweight challenger David Nyika (8-0) will try to add an eighth knockout victory.
The highly anticipated bout between Fury (34-0-1) and Usyk (21-0) will take place live on TNT Sports Box Office on February 17 to kick off the must-see boxing night.
