According to reports, Arsenal is first in line to sign Xavi Simons, a highly sought-after attacker.
Before going on loan to RB Leipzig for the 2023–24 season, the 20-year-old returned to Paris Saint-Germain from PSV Eindhoven last summer, and he has been playing well for the Bundesliga team.
With Leipzig across all competitions, Simons has achieved six goals and nine assists, including four goals and seven assists in 17 games in Germany’s top division.
With two goals and two assists in six games during the Champions League group stage, the Netherlands international also left a lasting impression. His play is said to have drawn a lot of attention.
Prior to joining PSG in 2019, Simons played for Barcelona in his youth career. However, he was only able to make 11 appearances for the French team’s first squad before being granted permission to join PSV in the summer of 2022.
In 48 games for PSV during the 2022–2023 season, the young player recorded 22 goals and 12 assists, prompting PSG to exercise a buy-back option.
Erik ten Hag, the head coach of Manchester United, is rumored to be a big fan of the Dutchman, and the English club is thought to have tried to sign him over the summer.
But he came back to PSG and signed a deal that would keep him with the French powerhouses until June 2027 before it was announced he would play the 2023–24 season on loan in Germany.
Arsenal is ‘a top contender’ to buy him, should PSG agree to a deal, and the Gunners are monitoring his form closely, according to Bild.
There have been rumors that his long-term future in Paris is uncertain and that the Ligue 1 winners would permit him to depart once more if the proper offer is made.
Though Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Inter Milan have all reportedly expressed interest, it’s thought that Arsenal is in the lead heading into the summer transfer season.
This season, Simons—who has 11 caps for the Netherlands—has demonstrated his versatility by playing a variety of roles.
This season, he has played primarily as a right-sided attacker for his club, but he has also operated in the middle and down the left.
