Alphonso Davies has stated that, despite persistent rumors that he would be joining Real Madrid in the summer, he is “very comfortable” at Bayern Munich.
Davies has not yet finalized the details of a new contract in Bavaria, and his current contract at the Allianz Arena expires in the summer of 2025.
Although there have been rumors circulating throughout Europe that Madrid will try to sign Davies later in 2024—by which time he might only have a year remaining on his deal—David Ornstein of The Athletic reported last week that Bayern has made a more lucrative offer to the left-back, and that at this point, he is expected to stay with the Bundesliga champions.
Davies acknowledged that he is content at Bayern in an interview with the German publication Kicker.
This place really suits me. I play for one of the best teams in all of Europe with an amazing squad. I never waver in my commitment to the squad and our supporters,” he remarked.
According to Kicker, a few high-ranking Bayern executives feel that Davies’ recent performances have suffered as a result of rumors about his future and Madrid’s interest. He put on a fantastic display in their 3-2 victory over Augsburg over the weekend, scoring a goal to cap off his comeback.
Even if his performances this season have drawn criticism, Davies, who turned 23 in November, remains adamant about his ability to perform consistently.
As a relatively unknown quantity in 2020, I wasn’t much on anyone’s radar, but I delivered. Naturally, after that, people had higher expectations of me,” he continued.
“I believe that overall, though obviously not every game or all the time, I did this justice. Few players actually are able to accomplish that consistently over the course of their careers.
Since then, my play has taken on a slightly different approach. Reduce the amount of trickery, dribbling, and risk slightly. But in contrast to four years ago, I now understand other things better. Obviously, I’ve got more experience now. However, I want to keep growing and learning because I’m still young.”
