Mason Greenwood, the forward on loan from Manchester United, scored in Getafe’s victory over Granada on Monday night. This led Getafe head coach Jose Bordalas to ask Greenwood to keep up his level of play for the entire ninety minutes.
Greenwood scored Getafe’s first goal of the half through a deflected shot, and in the 36th minute, Borja Mayoral—who now shares the lead in La Liga with Jude Bellingham and Artem Dovbyk of Girona—doubled the hosts’ advantage.
With the win, Getafe’s streak of consecutive losses in the top division of Spain is over, and they remain in 10th place in La Liga.
Due to Greenwood’s impressive play while on loan at Getafe, several United supporters are calling for Erik ten Hag to include the 22-year-old back in his team for the upcoming campaign.
After Getafe’s victory over Granada, Bordalas didn’t waste any time in reminding Greenwood that he must continue to be a threat offensively throughout the entire match.
He is an excellent player, but everybody works. Though Greenwood, Borja, and Maxi’s work have our sincere gratitude, he cannot shine without the contributions of all of us. stated Bordalas.
Greenwood performed admirably in the first half but less so in the second.
But each person has contributed to the team’s work. They understood how important the game was, and we eventually succeeded.
After United conducted an internal investigation and determined that Greenwood should resume his career somewhere following his arrest in January 2022 for attempted rape, controlling behavior, and violence, the forward signed a loan deal with Getafe in the final hour of the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old had all charges against him dismissed in February of last year, and before the club faced significant criticism from supporters on the possibility of his return, they had discussed reintegrating him back into the first team.
