Malo Gusto and Christopher Nkunku will be available for Chelsea’s Premier League match against Liverpool, and Nicolas Jackson is also a candidate despite playing on Monday night for Senegal.
The Blues, who have won their past three Premier League games in a row, will take against Jurgen Klopp’s team on Wednesday night at Anfield. They have also advanced to the Carabao Cup final.
The return of Nkunku, a France international who has missed his team’s last five games due to a hip injury, will be a huge help to Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
Due to a muscular issue, Gusto was unable to play against Middlesbrough or Aston Villa last week; nonetheless, both players will travel to Merseyside, where Jackson might also play.
The 22-year-old played for Senegal, which lost to host Ivory Coast on penalties shootouts on Monday, sending them sailing out of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Jackson played the full 90 minutes after coming off the bench, although Pochettino disclosed on Tuesday that he might still be involved if he returned to the UK on time.
During his pre-match press conference, the Chelsea manager gave an update on injuries, saying, “I think it’s good news that we can involve Christoph and Malo Gusto and can be in the squad tomorrow.”
We’ll see. We wait till the very last minute all the time. It’s wonderful news that two players are currently back on track. We’ll see.
Why not Nico Jackson for the game tomorrow? If he makes it [on time].
But Levi Colwill will not be playing for Chelsea. The England international took a knock during the pre-match warm-up and was forced to leave the starting lineup for Friday’s FA Cup match against Aston Villa.
Although Pochettino called the injury “minor,” he will not play on Wednesday night.
Not at all. Levi has left. His tendon had a mild injury. I don’t believe it’s a huge deal, but he’s leaving tomorrow.
