Didier Drogba issues verdict on Mauricio Pochettino as pressure mounts
Didier Drogba, a Chelsea legend, has asked for more time for Mauricio Pochettino to correct the situation at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea takes on Aston Villa tonight at Villa Park in what seems like a pivotal FA Cup fourth-round replay, and Pochettino is under pressure to improve outcomes by the summer.
Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali anticipate that the team will improve, but the club does not have any plans to make another mid-season management change. Following Saturday’s 4-2 home loss to Wolves, Blues supporters jeered them off, and Pochettino has been under criticism.
Invoking the tolerance that was extended to Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp during their formative years at Manchester City and Liverpool, Pochettino yesterday urged patience at Chelsea. He claimed that when rebuilding with young players, issues would inevitably arise.
Following Chelsea’s Champions League elimination last season, Drogba launched a scathing attack on the club’s owners, declaring, “I no longer recognize my club.”
The striker, though, feels that Pochettino is doing “the best job possible” and that “it is just a matter of time” before the new Chelsea project is successful.
Drogba remarked, “It’s not an easy moment for the club, but they have my trust and my support because Chelsea is still Chelsea.” “Those young players came to Chelsea because they wanted to be a part of the legacy that we have built.”
Football, however, does not have time, but they will need time to get used to it. You must keep in mind that when I joined Chelsea, the players were already there and prepared for the match; they were in the range of 24, 25, 26, and some of them were even 27.
“They are still young and in the process of learning.” Give them some time, and everyone will say, “Wow, this is the new generation, the best Chelsea team ever” when they perform at their best.
It’s only a question of time, and my goal is that the vision will resemble the one we had when Roman Abramovich acquired the team. Everyone is aware of Pochettino’s Premier League accomplishments. He is doing the best he can and is well-versed in the League.
