Xavi is likely to continue with Andreas Christensen in a makeshift role against Granada
Xavi Hernandez, the manager of Barcelona, took a risk by starting Andreas Christensen in the defensive midfield position in their most recent match against Deportivo Alaves.
Although the 27-year-old had been discussed extensively in the past, Xavi had waited until last week to decide to use him in midfield.
When he did, it proved to be a wise decision as Christensen played a strong pivot role, creating space for players like Frenkie de Jong, Ilkay Gundogan, and Pedri to create more opportunities up top.
Christensen is likely to continue in midfield vs Granada
Xavi is expected to continue playing alongside Christensen as a makeshift defensive midfielder ahead of tomorrow night’s La Liga matchup against Granada, according to SPORT.
Right now, it looks like Christensen will start the game at the deepest position in the middle of the pitch as part of a four-man midfield formation.
Probably, the elite trio of Ilkay Gundogan, Frenkie de Jong, and Pedri will occupy the remaining three positions.
The two attackers should be Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal, with the backline consisting of Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, Joao Cancelo, and either Inigo Martinez or Pau Cubarsi.
Christensen performed admirably against Alaves and has prior experience playing in the defensive midfield position.
The Danish international performed well in his defensive duties and made effective use of the ball while in control, meeting the demands of the team.
Because of this, the experiment will likely continue throughout the remaining games, beginning with the match against Granada at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys tomorrow night.
