Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United attacker, is on loan at Getafe this season
Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United loanee, sent a new message to Sir Jim Ratcliffe on Sunday by setting up two goals for Getafe in their late comeback against Celta Vigo. Greenwood temporarily left Old Trafford with the hopes of making a permanent move, but the United executives will find it difficult to overlook his performance in Spain.
Recently, Greenwood’s Getafe performances have been impressive; their 3-2 victory over Vigo, in which he recorded two assists, is only one example. The England player with just one cap appeared to have eked in a second goal as his shot narrowly eluded Vicente Guaita in goal. However, Jaime Mata made sure to tap it in from close range as it was approaching the net.
But with five minutes left, goals from Tadeo Allende and Jorgen Strand Larsen tied the score at 2-2. Then, in the 89th minute, Greenwood took a step forward and whipped in a cross that Mata was able to bundle home, sending Getafe fans into raptures.
In addition to his five goals, Greenwood has now contributed six assists in La Liga, helping Getafe move up into the top half of the standings. Due to the 22-year-old’s outstanding play, Barcelona is even thinking about signing him; Greenwood and Ratcliffe will have to make a significant decision this summer.
Greenwood’s permanent departure from United was anticipated, given the club’s statement indicating that, even with the accusations against him being dismissed, he would pursue other opportunities.
However, with Ratcliffe taking over as manager and his agreement to purchase 25% of the team still pending approval, there’s a chance that the earlier choice will be reversed. Ratcliffe has allegedly given Greenwood’s predicament high priority, according to The Sun.
Due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, United may see Greenwood as a player from whom they can demand a high fee, given the interest shown by Barcelona, AC Milan, and Saudi Arabia.
Alternatively, Greenwood might have the solution to the Red Devils’ goal-scoring issues. United leads all teams in the top half of the Premier League standings in goals scored, having scored 33 goals in their first 24 games under Erik ten Hag’s leadership.
With Jadon Sancho banished before joining Borussia Dortmund on loan and Antony failing to live up to his contract, there has been a particularly noticeable void on the right side of the attack. Alejandro Garnacho has occupied that position for the past few weeks; Greenwood could take his place.

Bringing Greenwood back into the mix would be a major U-turn for Ratcliffe, but his play for Getafe and his two recent vital assists against Vigo would give those in control at Old Trafford plenty to think about.
