Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay left blown away by £80m Man United player against Villa yesterday
Scott McTominay didn’t seem to be informed that Villa Park has proven to be dangerous territory for numerous elite teams this season.
Incredibly impressively, given his minutes played, the midfielder scored his seventh league goal of the season.
In relation to players like Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, and Alejandro Garnacho, the seven goals put the Scot two goals ahead of them.
However, even though McTominay has had a few player of the match performances this season, Harry Maguire took the spotlight yesterday.
With his commanding presence in defense and his ability to dominate aerial duels, the former captain was playing at a high level.
Yesterday, Maguire set up Hojlund’s goal for Man United with an assist. In the second half, he held his own against intense Villa pressure.
After the game, the £80 million defender celebrated the three points on Instagram, to the rightful praise of his teammates.
Harry Maguire posted three images from the match with the caption, “Taking 3 points back to Manchester,” to serve as a reminder to Man United supporters of his talent yesterday at Villa Park. Support away [emoji fire].
Hojlund and McTominay, United’s top scorers, both responded to the message; the former seemed to appreciate Maguire’s help.
Naturally, the England international is keeping up his evidence that staying with the team this summer wasn’t necessarily a bad decision.
Given that Maguire showed little interest in moving to West Ham United, for example, many believed he was displaying a lack of drive.
But as he demonstrated against Villa yesterday, the defender was obviously optimistic that he could still have an influence for United.
Maguire will be essential to Ten Hag during the next few months, since Lisandro Martinez is once again out of commission for the foreseeable future.
And even if Bruno Fernandes was pleased with the defender’s overall play, there was one instance where Maguire truly irritated him.
