Cole Palmer was back at the Etihad Stadium since his 2023 summer exit.
With Liverpool and Arsenal both winning earlier in the day, City drew to the Blues.
With with ten minutes remaining, Rodri’s goal tied the score, despite Raheem Sterling’s goal putting Chelsea up just before the break.
Due to Erling Haaland’s lack of performance, City has a lot of opportunities. To considerable astonishment among the home audience, the Norwegian turned off several presentable opportunities.
The eventual result of a draw was certainly fair, and Pep Guardiola will be hoping his team can cut the gap at the top by defeating Brentford on Tuesday, the club’s next game.
After visiting the Etihad for the first time since leaving Manchester City, Cole Palmer sends a message.
Cole Palmer had not returned to the Etihad since leaving the team in a £42.5 million trade to join Chelsea, and yesterday was his first visit.
Palmer had been anticipating the opportunity to properly say farewell to fans at the stadium, so it had been a moment he was looking forward to.
He was undoubtedly one of the better players for the visitors yesterday when he made his Chelsea debut.
On his former haunt, Palmer released Nicolas Jackson, who set up Sterling for the Chelsea goal. The England international exuded confidence in his performance.
As Mauricio Pochettino tried to calm things down, he became hooked after 70 minutes, but Palmer was outstanding.
While there were a few jeers as he took off, most of the home crowd cheered for the 21-year-old.
Palmer posted on Instagram, saying, “All square,” indicating that the few boos had left her with no ill taste. “All square. Good performance, nice to be back!”
An excellent show with a kind reception
It was encouraging to witness Palmer receive a positive greeting from most City supporters on Saturday night, as Shaun Wright-Phillips had anticipated.
He eventually departed the team amicably, and many recognize that his lack of playing time ultimately forced him to go, even though it wasn’t his choice. It was understandable that he wanted to leave when Chelsea called, and so far, his choice has been beneficial.
There were a few jeers, but even for players who part ways amicably with their teams, that’s very standard.
Palmer’s return was welcomed, and perhaps he was able to catch up with many individuals at the Etihad Stadium.
Bravo for his performance; it’s obvious he has a lot of talent.
