Kubrat Pulev will face Mahmoud Charr, formerly known as Manuel Charr, for the WBA (World Boxing Association) regular heavyweight title in Sofia on March 30, the two sportsmen said at a joint news conference in the Bulgarian capital Thursday.
Arena Sofia will host the heavyweight boxing event. The WBA just unveiled the WBA Regular Heavyweight Title, which permits the crowning of several world champions. In the impending unification fight with Britain’s Tyson Fury, Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk will be defending his WBA Super Heavyweight Title.
“I will be facing a very serious opponent who, like me, has a lot of experience,” commented Pulev.
This is Kubrat’s and my best opportunity ever. Ivaylo Gotsev, the manager of Pulev, continued, “I have been a promoter for thirty years, and I have always wanted to go to this world title fight in Sofia.”
“I’m a combatant. I fight to leave a legacy, not to get money. You are lost if all you fight for is money. Put forth a lot of effort and eventually you will achieve all of your goals, Charr stated.
Tervel, the younger brother of Kubrat Pulev, will also participate at the gala. Although they are not yet identified, his opponent should be revealed shortly.
“The organisation has confirmed the WBA [regular] world title. We are currently waiting on the match’s officiating crew to be announced. We all understand how significant this fight is for both Mr. Char and Mr. Pulev, particularly in light of Anthony Joshua’s upcoming heavyweight bout on March 8 and the impending Usyk vs. Fury bout,” stated Mariana Borissova, President of WBA Europe and the most well-known Bulgarian in world-class professional boxing.
The 42-year-old Kubrat Pulev has won 30 fights in the professional ring, 14 of them by knockout. Mahmoud Charr, 39, is a successful fighter with 34 victories (20 via knockout).
