Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United loanee, would be a perfect match for Barcelona, according to Getafe president Angel Torres.
Mason Greenwood is currently with La Liga team Getafe after United decided, after an internal inquiry, that he had to continue playing outside of Old Trafford.
Prior to the charges being dismissed in February 2023, Greenwood was accused of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour in January 2022.
Following the expiration of his Getafe loan, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new minority owner who is now in charge of football operations, has hinted that the Red Devils may reconsider their position on Greenwood.
This season, he has five goals and five assists in 21 games after missing more than 20 months due to injury. His contract with the Red Devils is set to expire in June 2025.
Numerous elite European teams, including Barcelona, have expressed interest in signing Greenwood, and Getafe manager Torres thinks the Nou Camp would be a good fit.
Speaking to Spanish radio station COPE, Torres stated, “He is very comfortable and crazy about staying another year.”
“It’s an issue that the United States must resolve. The ownership has changed. They need to make a choice.
He possesses a market in Spain. He would be a good fit for Barca’s style of play, but Manchester United is the deciding factor. He’ll let me know whether it’s true.
After the British tycoon finished buying a 27.7% share in the team, Ratcliffe left the door open for Greenwood to return to the United team.
According to The Athletic, the head of INEOS stated, “We will make a decision and we will justify it.”
“Obviously, he’s on loan, but he’s not the only one. We will take that action because we have to deal with one or two football players and make a decision.
“The approach will be to comprehend the facts, not the hype, and then attempt to reach a just conclusion based on values, which is essentially whether or not he is a good guy. Then, we will address whether or not he could play sincerely for Manchester United and whether or not we and the fans would be comfortable with it.”
