Dominik Szoboszlai, who acknowledged having “argued” with Liverpool’s medical team, is unhappy by his continued absence because of a hamstring issue.
Due to an injury crisis plaguing Jurgen Klopp’s team, the No. 8 is one of 11 senior players who will miss the Carabao Cup final.
Szoboszlai has now missed six more Liverpool games after exacerbating a hamstring ailment that sidelined him for the majority of January.
Though, like with Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez, the Hungarian had little chance of making the team to play Chelsea at Wembley, the decision was made to avoid taking any chances.
Nevertheless, Szoboszlai was one of the injured players who went to London, and he could walk without assistance, unlike Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones.
Speaking to the Hungarian publication Match4, the 23-year-old further stated that he would have taken part if the call had been given to him, according to Index.
“I told them that I would play, and that I would take the risks involved in order to return as pain-free as possible as soon as possible,” he said.
“I think it would be worth it to play in the championship game, even though [the medical staff] was more cautious.”
“I’m also thinking ahead: I’d rather play 20 more games than sustain an injury right now.”
Szoboszlai acknowledged that he is not the most pleasant person to be around when injured, but he nonetheless accepted the decision made by Liverpool’s medical staff.
He remarked, “I hate not playing, and I don’t wear it well.”
“I had a lot of arguments with the physicians. Although the diagnosis doesn’t support it, I feel like I could play. It feels like they know better, but I think otherwise.
“Klopp frequently asks how I’m doing, even when we don’t meet, because I might be arriving at training at a different time than the team.”
Szoboszlai was expected to start on the bench at Wembley, but according to Index, his most likely return game is the March 2 trip to Nottingham Forest.
