At Wembley, Chelsea player Enzo Fernandez nearly got into a fight with a Liverpool spectator.
Enzo Fernandez nearly confronted a Liverpool supporter, according to Metro, when he was made fun of while receiving his runner-up medal on the stairs following Chelsea’s 0-1 loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
When Konstantinos Tsimikas’ corner kick in the 118th minute was headed home by Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool defeated the Blues in domestic cup play once more and won the League Cup for a record ninth time. The Blues have now fallen short against the Reds in three consecutive Wembley showpieces.
Before extra time, the Blues had opportunities to win with a comfortable scoreline, but their recklessness was evident once more.
Mauricio Pochettino, who has yet to win a trophy with an English team, is now experiencing yet another disappointment. After the game, the Argentine manager was distressed and on the verge of tears, but when a supporter attempted to make fun of Fernandez, the situation could have been worse.
Fernandez was depressed after the match because he had a difficult evening against Liverpool. The midfielder went on to pick up his runner-up medal after the final whistle. A Liverpool supporter exclaimed, “Enzo, unlucky lad!” and started laughing uncontrollably.
When Fernandez turned to face that supporter with an angry expression, Chelsea teammate Jimi Tauriainen surprised him. Otherwise, he would have been in a terrible situation if he had addressed the fan.
It’s usually preferable to stay away from these football-related incidents rather than letting them consume you. Fernandez would have been in trouble with the FA if he had done anything to the fan. But because he didn’t play to his best in the game and lost a final, these times are always depressing.
