Mikel Arteta provides updates on the health of Partey, Jesus, Tomiyasu, and Timber.
Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu are two players whose availability will be determined after Sunday’s training session, according to Mikel Arteta. Thomas Partey, however, should be included in Arsenal’s squad to play Sheffield United on Monday.
Along with giving an update on long-term absentee Jurrien Timber, who was seen on Wednesday practicing with his colleagues at the Emirates, the manager also shared more details on the problems that have plagued Gabriel Jesus and Tomiyasu.
Thomas Partey’s fitness
After completing two or three straight practices, Thomas is expected to be included in the team on Monday. He had a session before the most recent game [against Newcastle].
Reliability of Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksandr Zinchenko for Monday
Those are feasible, but we’ll have to wait and see following our final two sessions on Saturday and Sunday to find out if they’ll be available on Monday.
Regarding Gabriel Jesus
He is sufficiently fit. What is different is how long he will last. We didn’t want to take any chances in light of our performance against Newcastle. We need him to fit in. We want to make sure that we load the player properly because he is a huge player for us.
Regarding whether the surgery Jesus had done before the season was effective enough…
That was taken care of. What happened was that he took a knock on a different part of his body, which led to a different kind of injury. He felt a slight ache, but it had nothing to do with the previous one. He was out for ten days due to a muscle ailment.
Regarding concerns that Jesus would require surgery once more…
No, as far as I know, that has been settled. I believe it has been addressed as far as I’m concerned, but it may be a question best left to the doctors.
Regarding Timber’s quick recuperation and how it demonstrates his will to return…
Indeed. It’s been enjoyable. His dedication, attitude, and the way things have gone have all made the physiotherapists and medical staff extremely satisfied. However, the way he approaches things, his level of determination, and his desire to provide whatever he’s asked of him are not coincidences. Furthermore, he is in a great place. Due to the complexity of the latter stage of that challenging injury, we now have to manage him. However, I believe he’s headed in the correct direction.
Timber’s potential contributions to the team…
First and foremost, his ability to lead, adapt, and play in a variety of positions—particularly during the attacking phase—as well as the space he can occupy and unique skills that no one else in the team possesses allow him to do so. He seemed to be blending in throughout the preseason; the model seems to fit him in, he’s well-liked by the boys, and he’s been a huge loss.
Regarding Tomiyasu’s state of injury,
He was hurt. He experienced something when he played Japan in the previous game. He had left. We had anticipated it to be a little bit shorter, but at first, he was having some difficulty recovering, so we decided to give it a little more time to be sure. This is a player we need, and we are confident that we cannot risk having him miss months.
Regarding whether Tomiyasu’s problem was an old one reappearing,
It was something a little bit different from that, I believe.
Regarding the returning players adding a fresh degree of uncertainty to the squad…
Yes, that is one issue. Then depth, given that there will be a tonne of games and we have no idea what will happen. Thus, increased rivalry among the team members, freshness, and the ability to turn games around when the odds are in our favor and when we are chasing games. It’s something that will be crucial during this time.
