Chelsea’s injury report shows that Romeo Lavia is also getting better and that Reece James is still working toward a return.
Reece James is working hard to return to Chelsea’s field after missing more than two months due to injury. The team’s captain hasn’t appeared on the field since leaving the game after 30 minutes on December 10 against Everton in a 2-0 defeat.
This was the full-back’s second serious injury of the season; the first was his absence from all but one of the games played from August through November. James underwent surgery to address his knee and hamstring issues, and he has made steady improvement in the two years since.
Late last year, it was decided to have James undergo surgery in an attempt to address his problems, and he is currently recovering in preparation for returning to action. He took a break to work in the capital city of Qatar, Doha, while his colleagues were getting ready for the Carabao Cup final last week. He is back at the Cobham training facility.
The 24-year-old has now returned to private training on the grass and is using social media once more to inform supporters of his present situation. He wrote on Thursday night, “The comeback is coming, all these setbacks I took would break you.”
James also uploaded a video of himself using a treadmill while strapped up and under the watchful eye of rehabilitation equipment to his tale. “Countless hrs [hours] in the lab [lab coat and timer emoji]” he stated.
Although the club is reluctant to give James a period for his comeback, football.london is aware that he has been recuperating nicely from his most recent setback. Initially, it was anticipated that he would be sidelined for at least three months following the procedure, ending in mid-March.
He is probably not going to play again until April because of the international break that followed Chelsea’s FA Cup quarterfinal matchup with Leicester City over the weekend of March 16. Romeo Lavia, the recently acquired Blues teammate, is also in the same camp.
Having developed a string of niggles that began only weeks after his summer transfer from Southampton, he has played even fewer games this year. The Belgian was subsequently forced to sit out a lengthy stint shortly after making his debut on December 27 against Crystal Palace, having entered the game as a replacement.
Lavia is currently aiming for his comeback. He also posted a reel of pictures to Instagram, some of which showed him in training and some of which showed him lying on a treatment table. “One day at a time… [sun in the clouds and timer emoji],” the midfield player wrote. Lavia has just been spotted kicking a ball during practice and is back on the grass at Cobham.
For a portion of Chelsea’s final stretch, Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping to have both James and Lavia available. The Blues are currently the favorites to advance to the FA Cup semifinals, where the two could still be eligible to participate on April 20–21, assuming their team advances that far.
For the upcoming season, Chelsea is also attempting to re-enter European football. Although they have a game in hand over their rivals, they are now ranked eleventh. If they win, they would move up to ninth place, barely two points ahead of Brighton in seventh.
