Alphonso Davies and Bayern Munich will begin new negotiations on a new contract when the current one expires in 2025.
Real Madrid is reportedly interested in signing Alphonso Davies, but Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has acknowledged the team is in active negotiations with him over his future.
A report from The Athletic stated that Alphonso Davies has verbally agreed to join Real Madrid either this summer or next. His current contract at the Allianz Arena expires in 2025. The goal is to get the left-back before the 2024–2025 campaign, but if a deal cannot be reached with Bayern, Madrid will only sign him the next season on a free transfer.
Nevertheless, Bayern has stated unequivocally that they do not want to lose Davies for nothing and that they intend to sell him this summer or sign a new contract.
This week, Bayern announced the hiring of the highly regarded Max Eberl as their new head of sport. CEO Dreesen also disclosed that the team may try again to extend Davies’ contract.
“In Alphonso, we have a player who has developed excellently on the left wing, not only because of his speed but also because of his character and his directness in recent years,” Dreesen stated.
“We are discussing his future with his agent. We’ll find out how intricate it is. This will be Max Eberl’s intervention in the contract. Sporting director Christoph Freund has previously discussed it. However, considering the big picture is a crucial component of rebuilding the team and adding new players, and it depends on Max and Christoph’s perspectives on the future.”
Eberl stated of Davies at his debut this week: “Jan-Christian and Christoph have had discussions.” I’ll try to carry on the discussion. No team desires to lose players to injury. I must assess the current state of affairs.”
