Arne Slot, the next manager of Liverpool, might not be allowed to recruit more than one person to his staff before the 2019–20 season. The 45-year-old was keen to bring Ettienne Reijnen, his assistant at Feyenoord, to Anfield but will need to overcome obstacles in order to finalize a deal.
Reijnen, 37, joined Slot at Feyenoord in 2023 after serving as a technical director and assistant at PEC Zwolle and SC Cambuur, respectively. His primary concern during their time at the club together was giving Slot tactical and analytical assistance.
Slot was excited to bring Reijnen to the Premier League after being named Jürgen Klopp’s successor, but his colleague’s current work visa troubles may make the transfer more difficult. The former athlete does not possess the necessary coaching credentials to be employed in the Premier League, according to AD.
Slot’s hopes would be severely harmed if Reijnen is unable to obtain the necessary paperwork in order to obtain a work visa to operate in England. Even though he might not get to collaborate with his former assistant again, one member of his Anfield backroom team has already been confirmed.
After leaving Feyenoord, Ruben Peeters will join Liverpool as the team’s new main physical performance coach. He had previously worked for Belgian giants KRC Genk, where he served as head of performance at the Dutch club.
On social media, Peeters’ agency, Claes Agency, revealed that the 32-year-old will be travelling with Slot to the Premier League. Claes Agency closes contract to send Ruben Peeters to Liverpool FC!
Alongside Arne Slot and Sipke Hulshoff, Ruben will be Liverpool FC’s first team primary physical performance coach. From KRC Genk to Feyenoord to Liverpool FC’s main stages. Ruben Peeters, you’ll never be alone! Motivated by what is ahead for you.
Hulshoff is anticipated to assume the position of assistant manager at the club, which Pep Lijnders held during Klopp’s tenure. Since leaving Anfield, Ljinders has been hired as the head coach of RB Salzburg.
