One of the few teams in the nation, Manchester City, does not anticipate making any significant additions during the summer transfer window.
With their second consecutive Premier League title, the Blues will be happy with their performance. Just a year after finishing the Treble, they etched their names in history with their fourth straight title success.
Away from the top division, there will be some letdown with the loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup final and the elimination from the Champions League to Real Madrid on penalties. However, nobody would blame Pep Guardiola for concluding that his squad is good enough to contend the following season.
Guardiola’s agreement
When the next summer rolls along, everyone’s attention is once more focused on Guardiola’s future. Having accomplished everything that needed to be done at the Etihad Stadium, reports indicate that the City manager intends to depart the team at the end of the current campaign.
Guardiola would leave the Blues at a peak and poised to dominate world football if he were to leave in 2025. If he makes that decision, though, City should start looking for a replacement right once because, as the current management rotation has shown, there aren’t many options.
Two players or more depart.
It should come as no surprise who the two City players who are leaving in the summer are. The days of Joao Cancelo and Kalvin Phillips at the Etihad Stadium are over, and neither player is expected to be included in the starting lineup going forward.
At this point, it would be pointless for either man to take out another loan spell, therefore they need to find long-term exits. In Phillips’ instance, City must acknowledge that selling him would probably result in a loss of revenue, but considering the other options, Guardiola must take the loss.
Bernardo’s choice
Talk about Guardiola’s future is never-ending, but when summertime arrives, everyone want to know what awaits Bernardo Silva. Calling the Portuguese player a utility man seems like an injustice, but if that is the label he has earned, then it is only because of his incredibly impressive adaptability.
The 29-year-old’s contract expires in 2026, although there are rumors that Barcelona is keeping an eye on him. However, he shouldn’t be departing this summer because there aren’t many players in international football who can switch to such a wide range of positions when necessary.
The De Bruyne shift
Ultimately, Kevin De Bruyne needs to have a difficult talk regarding his future with the squad in the upcoming season. Though he is still among the top playmakers in the game, the Belgian does not represent City’s future.
The 32-year-old’s contract expires in 2025, and while it wouldn’t be a good idea to sell him, he could have to accept taking on less responsibility. Since Phil Foden has shown he is capable of taking over as De Bruyne’s primary playmaker, he will likely be playing at number ten for the foreseeable future.
