Antonio Rudiger thinks that before their 2024 Euro campaign, Germany could learn a few things from Real Madrid.
Die Mannschaft, who are getting ready to host the European Championships this summer, will be even more scrutinized given that they haven’t advanced past the round of 16 in any of their previous three big competitions. They have also lost their last two World Cups in the group stage.
Germany has only won two of their previous six games, albeit those wins did come against France and the Netherlands, going into Friday’s last warm-up encounter against Greece. Julian Nagelsmann’s team fought a depressing 0-0 draw with Ukraine in Nuremberg on Monday.
Germany is urged by Rudiger to “adopt killer instinct.”
There were many good things to take away from the game, even though a goalless draw against Ukraine is not what Nagelsmann or Germany’s supporters would have desired.
Over the ninety minutes, Germany tried 27 shots on goal, including two excellent ones, and were only prevented from scoring by the valiant efforts of Benfica’s Anatolii Trubin in goal for Ukraine.
But there is a lack of cutting edge among the German ranks, as only five of their 27 attempts struck the target.
After helping Real Madrid win La Liga and the Champions League, center-back Antonio Rudiger has challenged his fellow internationals to remember Los Blancos’ brutality so they can destroy teams at the European Championship.
During a press conference this week, the former Chelsea defender stated, “We can adapt that killer instinct” (via 90min).
“I haven’t seen such a good 0-0 in a while,” the 31-year-old continued. Although we conceded a few goals, Madrid has much to teach us.
We have to maintain our humility. Everyone is aware of the events from the most recent tournaments.
Friday’s initial Euro 2024 matchup between Germany and Scotland takes place in Munich and begins at 8 p.m. (UK time).
