Goncalo Inacio and Morten Hjulmand of Sporting Lisbon are reportedly targets for Manchester United this summer. According to GiveMeSport, if the Old Trafford club is successful in getting the two to the Theatre of Dreams, they may be valued at £119 million.
Raphael Varane is leaving the team this summer, and Inacio, a central defender, might help the team replace him for as little as £51 million. During the 2023–24 season, United experienced a severe injury issue that forced them to use inexperienced players or players out of position.
Inacio made 49 appearances for his team in the 2023–24 campaign, contributing one assist and four goals as Sporting won the Primeira Liga for the second time in three years. If he departs the Portuguese club this summer, he might make a good addition for whoever signs him.
Both Inacio and Hjulmand, who are both under 25 and not considered to be galacticos, meet the criteria set by Sir Jim Ratcliffe before to the summer transfer window. Since the summer of 2013, United has experienced a great deal of failure. In the market, United needs to perform significantly better.
After joining Sporting for £15 million last summer from Serie A team US Lecce, Hjulmand, 24, may be eligible for a release clause of £68 million this summer. If he departed, the Portuguese club would benefit significantly. United is in dire need of quality players.
The club has lost hundreds of millions of pounds in transfer fees, agent fees, and wages as a result of signing high-profile players, and this has not led to the success the club may have hoped for. It nearly seems as though the club was managed by non-football enthusiasts.
Sporting won their 20th league title in Portugal thanks to Hjulmand’s four goals and four assists in 49 games during the 2023–2024 season—a feat that United has repeated in England over the years. He is capable of playing in the positions of defensive, central, and offensive midfield.
The Danish international is one of the most “complete” midfielders Sporting has ever worked with, according to manager Ruben Amorim, and Sporting would not part with him easily. Naturally, United has Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund on staff, which may be a big assistance.
