For the preseason, one Man City player will not be traveling to the US with the team.
Two games have been managed by Pep Guardiola thus far: the first was in North Carolina against Celtic, and the second was in New York against AC Milan.
Both games were losses for City. But as everyone knows, preseason performance doesn’t really matter.
With a number of first-team stars still on holiday after their triumphs in international tournaments, Guardiola will get the opportunity to look at some of his fringe and younger players.
Joao Cancelo is one player who is on vacation right now; the manager still does not have him in the lineup after the two fell out in the middle of the 2022–2023 season.
Joao Cancelo is expected to skip Man City’s US preseason tour.
Cancelo has reportedly informed SPORT that he will not be taking part in Manchester City’s US tour.
This confirms a previous rumor that Guardiola objected to the player’s involvement.
In the next few days, the players who competed at Euro 2024 will reunite with the team. Cancelo, who played for Portugal alongside Matheus Nunes, Bernardo Silva, and Ruben Dias, does not appear to be traveling with the team.
This is due to Barcelona’s current pursuit of him, as they hope to re-sign him following his loan period from the previous season.
Cancelo is in a difficult situation because all he wants to do is get back to Barcelona, but the Spanish powerhouses cannot afford to sign him long-term.
Right now, they’re working to make a loan transfer happen. They would allegedly be prepared to reimburse City for the £7 million loan cost.
SPORT claims that a trade might materialize in the last few days of the window.
Cancelo will reportedly not be traveling with City on their US tour, but if he hasn’t been released before, he will report back to the team upon their return.
Cancelo appears to be leaving Man City.
Cancelo will therefore not be traveling with Manchester City on their preseason tour of the United States, which is certainly not a huge surprise.
There has been no sign that the player will be able to return to Guardiola since he left on loan to join Bayern Munich after their alleged falling out.
Guardiola does not want the player in his squad, according to SPORT’s report, and it appears that his departure this summer will happen when rather than if.
However, it’s still unclear if Cancelo can be sold at all. So far this summer, every sign suggests that City will have difficulties.
