Barcelona has set a price for Bayern Munich to sign a defender in January.
Even if Unai Emery’s team is doing well, Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is not having the best of seasons at Aston Villa. The Frenchman, who has only played 450 minutes thus far, may be able to leave the Midlands in January if a deal can be reached.
There are rumours that Bayern Munich is considering hiring him. Lenglet is one of the names that have been floated as the Bavarian team searches for low priced, highly experienced central defender cover. According to Sport, Barcelona is amenable to a deal as they aim to recover as much money as possible and remove his substantial salary from the books. It is believed that he is not receiving his entire salary from Aston Villa.
According to the Catalan newspaper, Barcelona would accept €10 million plus conditions from the Bavarian powerhouses for Lenglet, but they would not budge from their €15 million valuation during the summer window. Villa is supposedly willing to let him go, but Barcelona won’t approve a deal unless it’s a permanent move rather than a loan.
They further mention that Harry Kane has reportedly recommended the 28-year-old to Bayern following a respectable season at Tottenham Hotspur, according to BILD. Spurs attempted to sign Lenglet the previous season, but they were unable to come to an agreement with the Blaugrana. Kane praises Lenglet’s professionalism. Giorgio Scalvini, a centre defender for Atalanta, is another option they have, although he would set them back almost €30 million.
Lenglet is one of the players that Barcelona has been eager to get rid of for a number of seasons now as they continue to bear the expense of Josep Maria Bartomeu’s terrible negotiations. Lenglet is not a game-changer, despite being paid as such, but he has consistently delivered strong performances when Barcelona is performing well.
