Real Madrid are considering a January move for Manchester United defender Raphael Varane, according to Sport (page 20).
Due to long-term ailments, both Alaba and Eder Militao are sidelined for the European champions. The only senior central defenders who are fit are Antonio Rudiger and Nacho.
When needed, Aurelien Tchouameni can fill in at centre back, but according to Sport, Los Blancos may try to re-sign Varane from United at the beginning of the following season.
The Frenchman has been a consistent bench warmer in recent months, and his contract expires at the end of the current campaign. According to reports, United might get about €20 million for his sale.
Varane was entirely out of favour under manager Erik ten Hag for several weeks, but his circumstances have suddenly improved because to the injuries to Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. United is unlikely to part ways with Varane this winter.
He began the Champions League encounter at Bayern Munich, losing 1-0, and then won the Premier League match at Anfield, finishing as man of the match versus Liverpool.
The World Cup winner was exceptional; he won 100% of his aerial duels and had 15 clearances. He performed admirably with the Red Devils as a left center-back.
In light of the reversal and injury list, we believe that United is unlikely to approve his sale in January. They might hold him until the summer before deciding what to do with him.
Varane’s current contract expires in June of next year, but United can choose to extend it by another year. The extension clause should be activated by the club prior to the start of 2019.
