Mikel Arteta reports that Takehiro Tomiyasu was absent from Arsenal’s match against West Ham United due to a minor injury
Before Sunday’s match against West Ham United, Mikel Arteta delivered some unwelcome news to Arsenal supporters: Jorginho hadn’t trained because he “been carrying an issue,” Emile Smith Rowe had “turned his ankle,” and Oleksandr Zinchenko was “not fit.”
Arteta merely stated that Gabriel Jesus was unavailable, providing no further information.
However, Takehiro Tomiyasu’s absence remained unannounced until after the game, when Arteta said it was only another minor ailment.
“After returning from the national team, he experienced some discomfort,” Arteta said. After whatever many minutes he had played, it was not the right time to put him in danger.
Due to a calf injury that occurred prior to his absence from the AFC Asian Cup, Tomiyasu hasn’t been able to contribute significantly to Arsenal’s performance over the past few months.
When Tomiyasu returned from the Asian Cup, the initial expectation was that he would immediately rejoin the Arsenal team.
However, it appears that more evaluations showed that the defender would not have been fit to play against West Ham.
Tomiyasu should not be out for long since Arsenal will play Burnley on Saturday at Turf Moor before travelling to FC Porto on Wednesday, February 21st, for their Champions League first-leg meeting.
In other news, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Tomiyasu would shortly formally sign a new contract with Arsenal, stating that the deal is “100% sealed” and completed.
Romano claims Tomiyasu is prepared to sign his new contract, and there are just few formalities left before the announcement.
Although Tomiyasu had garnered attention from Italian and other clubs in recent months, according to Romano’s earlier claims, he was never going to depart.
He has always been desired to stay by Arsenal, and a new contract is on the way.
Arsenal’s latest injuries
Due to an ankle injury sustained during training, Emile Smith Rowe was not included in the West Ham squad. It’s unclear when he’ll return because his ankle sprains could take three to six months to heal.
Although Jorginho has a foot ailment right now, it wasn’t severe enough to prevent him from starting on the bench for Arsenal’s 6-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday.
Although it wasn’t anticipated that Gabriel Jesus would be sidelined for very long due to a second knee injury, the team has not disclosed when it will heal.
It is unclear when the club expects Oleksandr Zinchenko to return after he was substituted off against Liverpool at halftime. He was not included in the Arsenal squad for their match at the London Stadium.
Due to a setback, Fabio Vieira‘s scheduled return to training from his groyne surgery was postponed until mid-January. His own country’s most recent news indicated that he would return in the middle of February.
Every time Thomas Partey is on the verge of making a comeback after being out since October, he experiences an obstacle.
Despite still rehabilitating from the ACL injury he sustained on the first day of the season, Jurrien Timber has been included to Arsenal’s Champions League roster. He might return before the season ends, but it seems improbable and dangerous.
